AD/AS 355/42 - Lucas Air Equipment Hoist - Explosive Squib - CANCELLED

What this is: A cancellation of a previous aircraft safety rule (Airworthiness Directive) for specific helicopters.

Who it affects: Operators of Eurocopter AS 355 (Twin Ecureuil) series helicopters equipped with Lucas Air Equipment Hoists that use explosive squibs (pyrotechnic devices that cut cables in emergencies).

What changed:

• The previous safety requirement (AD/AS 355/42) is cancelled as of 30 July 2009
• The original rule required operators to comply with Service Bulletin No. 25.34 by April 1993 (a manufacturer's technical instruction) before installing any spare hoist
• This action is no longer required

Why it matters: Operators are no longer legally bound by the specific technical requirements of the original 1993 directive, though they must still ensure their equipment meets current airworthiness standards through other applicable regulations.
