Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that requires helicopter operators to fix a dangerous fault in passenger seat belts.

Who it affects: Anyone operating Eurocopter AS 355 (Twin Ecureuil) helicopters that have Securaiglon passenger seat belts (specifically those identified in Service Bulletin TRW No. 01).

What must be done: Operators must modify the seat belts according to two technical instructions:

Aerospatiale Service Bulletin No. 01.11
TRW RAPA SA Service Bulletin No. 01

The deadline: The modification had to be completed before 31 January 1985.

Why this matters: The manufacturer discovered that the seat belt buckles could jam in the locked position. This created a serious safety risk because passengers could become trapped in their seats during an emergency evacuation.
