Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it does: This directive requires owners of Call Air A-9 aircraft to modify the cockpit canopy frame to improve pilot safety. The fore and aft canopy tubes (the metal bars running alongside the pilot's head position) must be fitted with attachments to round them off, ensuring the curve radius is at least 50mm. These attachments must then be covered with at least 25mm of padding (energy-absorbing material).

Who it affects: All owners and operators of Aircraft Parts and Development (Call Air) A-9 series aeroplanes.

Why it matters: This prevents serious head injuries by ensuring that if a pilot's head strikes the canopy frame during turbulence or an accident, the impact hits a rounded, padded surface rather than a sharp metal edge.
