Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requiring urgent modifications to specific aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Twin Commander 680FL series aeroplanes with serial numbers 1261 through 1450, plus 1461, 1462, 1464, and 1466.

What it requires: These aircraft must be modified immediately ('forthwith') to fix the aileron cable drum cable retainer — a part that helps secure the control cables for the ailerons (the flaps on the wings that control rolling). The modification must follow the procedures in Aero Commander Service Bulletin No. 89.

Why it matters: This addresses a safety defect that could potentially cause loss of control of the aircraft if the cable retainer fails. Compliance is mandatory and immediate.
