Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this directive requires

Owners and operators of specific Gulfstream (Rockwell) 112 series aircraft must inspect — and replace if necessary — the elevator and rudder hinge fittings on their planes.

Who must comply

This applies only to specific serial numbers:

Model 112: Serial numbers 13003, and 3 through 544
Models 112TC and 112TCA: Serial numbers 13001 through 13309

The safety issue

The directive addresses a risk of the bolt holes in hinge fittings becoming elongated (stretched out) and cracks developing in the rudder spar (the main structural beam of the rudder). These defects could weaken the aircraft's control surfaces and affect flight safety.

What must be done Unless already completed, the inspection and any required replacement must be carried out within 100 hours of flight time after 31 March 1980. The work must follow the procedures set out in Rockwell International Service Letter No. SL-112-46.
