AD/AA-5/4 - Aileron - Additional Drain Holes - CANCELLED

What this does: This document cancels an old aviation safety rule (an Airworthiness Directive) that required owners of specific light aircraft to drill extra holes in their wing ailerons.

Who it affects: Owners and maintainers of Gulfstream AA-5 series aeroplanes (also sold under the names Grumman American or American Aviation).

Background: The original 1972 rule required adding drainage holes to the ailerons to prevent water buildup inside the wing control surfaces. Aircraft operators had to complete this modification within 100 hours of flight time after November 1972.

Why it matters: Since all affected aircraft should have been modified decades ago, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority has cancelled the rule as obsolete. This removes an outdated compliance burden, though the physical modifications remain on the aircraft.
