What you must do: Inspect and modify the drain holes in the aircraft's elevators (the movable surfaces on the tail that make the plane go up and down). The technical instructions are contained in Gulfstream American Service Bulletin No. 169.

Why it matters: Overseas reports showed water collecting inside the trailing edge of these elevators. Trapped water can freeze at altitude, add dangerous weight, or cause corrosion—any of which could impair control of the aircraft.

Deadline: You must complete this work within 100 hours of flight time after 30 June 1980.
