What this does

This document officially cancels an old aircraft safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that required owners of specific light planes to inspect their fuel lines for wear and damage.

Who it affects

Owners and operators of Gulfstream (Grumman American/American Aviation) AA-5 series aeroplanes — small, single-engine aircraft.

The background

In 1976, aviation safety authorities required these planes to have their fuel lines inspected for "chafing" (damage caused by pipes rubbing against other parts) within 100 hours of flight time.

Why it matters now

By 2009, every affected aircraft would have already completed this inspection. Since the safety work was mandatory over 30 years ago, the rule is now obsolete and has been formally scrapped.
