Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it does: This Airworthiness Directive is a safety order for specific light aircraft. It requires owners and operators to inspect the wing structure—specifically the area where the main wing beam (spar) meets the outer covering (skin)—and remove any defective spacers that could cause structural problems.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Gulfstream (formerly Grumman American) AA5A and AA5B model aeroplanes listed in Service Bulletin No. 153.

What you must do:

Follow the inspection and removal procedures detailed in Grumman American Service Bulletin No. 153 (a technical manual from the manufacturer)
Complete this work within 100 hours of flying time after 31 May 1976

Why it matters: This prevents potential structural failures in the wing that could compromise flight safety. Think of it as a mandatory recall notice for a specific mechanical defect, requiring a check-up and fix within a set number of flying hours.
