What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) that mandates physical replacement of specific non-textile floor (NTF) assemblies on Airbus A330 aeroplanes. The directive identifies a set of NTF part numbers supplied by two vendors, Benecke-Kaliko and Gôppinger-Kaliko, and requires operators to replace any installed assemblies of those part numbers with NTF whose overall composition , the top layer, the adhesive and the phenolic laminate taken together , “fulfils the applicable requirements” (Requirement). The AD prescribes that replacement be carried out in accordance with the procedures in Airbus Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) 25-28-12/42 PB 401 (Requirement). The AD is effective from 12 May 2005 and sets a hard compliance date of no later than 31 March 2009 (Compliance; Effective date).
The AD arises from a discovered non-conformance: although the NTF assemblies initially passed the 12‑second vertical burn test required by JAR/FAR §25.853 when tested in isolation, the composition as actually installed in aircraft , meaning the combined stack of top layer, adhesive and phenolic laminate , subsequently failed that 12‑second vertical burn criterion (Background). The AD therefore requires replacement with NTF whose installed composition meets the applicable burn requirements. The AD also cross-references DGAC AD F-2005-040 and Airbus Service Information Letter (SIL) 25‑131 for related material (Requirement; Background).
Mechanically, the AD imposes three obligations on affected operators: identify aircraft fitted with the listed NTF part numbers (Applicability); perform the prescribed replacement procedure set out in the Airbus AMM referenced (Requirement); and complete the replacement work by the compliance deadline (Compliance). The AD lists production and in‑service modification references that may be used to locate affected installations (Background).
