Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive makes mandatory in Australia the inspections and repairs set out in DGAC AD F‑2004‑100 for Airbus A330‑200/300 aircraft fitted with main landing gear axles P/N 201272608, 201272638, 201272644 or 201272649 manufactured before 20 Dec 1994, or later axles that were overhauled with chrome journals re‑worked. CASA’s delegate issues the requirement under CASR subreg 39.1(1); operators must carry out and fund the required actions.

DGAC issued the referenced action after a reported axle fracture linked to overheat damage from abusive chrome grinding and subsequent stress‑corrosion cracking; this AD implements that corrective programme in Australia to address that identified unsafe condition.

Propagation of the cracks occurred rapidly by stress corrosion.
