Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is a safety order for airlines and aircraft owners operating specific Airbus planes (A319, A320, and A321 models).

The problem: Certain toilet rinse valves (water-flushing mechanisms) in these aircraft can leak. If the forward toilet leaks, water can drip down into the avionics bays — the compartments that house critical electronic equipment for navigation, communication, and flight controls. Water damage here could cause electronic failures during flight.

Who must comply: Only applies to Airbus A320 aircraft fitted with specific Monogram rinse valves (part number 15800-348, Revision C) that haven't already been modified under a previous fix.

What must be done: Replace the faulty valves with updated versions, following the technical instructions in Airbus Service Bulletin A320-38-1049.

Deadline: Within 12 months of 1 January 1998.

Why it matters: Prevents water damage to essential flight electronics, avoiding potential system failures that could compromise flight safety.
