Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for specific Airbus aircraft operating in Australia.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Airbus A319, A320, and A321 series aircraft (those above 5,700 kg operating weight).

What it requires:

The fix: Reinforcement of structural fittings in the centre wing area (specifically the "pressure floor fittings"—the hardware that helps maintain cabin pressure and wing structure).
How: Follow the technical instructions in Airbus Service Bulletin A320-57-1013 Revision 1 (a manufacturer-issued repair manual).
When: Before the aircraft completes 16,000 flight cycles (one flight cycle = one takeoff and landing).

Why it matters: Fatigue testing found that these fittings could develop cracks or damage over time. This directive prevents structural failures that could affect airworthiness and safety. It aligns with a similar French aviation safety order (DGAC AD 95-098-066(B)).
