Step 1 , determine applicability. Verify whether the aeroplane is one of the types listed in Table 1 of the AD and whether it is "equipped with Electronic Instrument System EIS1 standard V32 (DMC P/N 9615325032), EIS1 standard V40 (DMC P/N 9615325040) or EIS1 standard V50 (DMC P/N 9615325050)" (Applicability). Checks should be based on manufacturer serial number (MSN) records and the installed DMC part number that identifies the EIS1 software standard as provided in the AD.
Step 2 , procure the authorising service bulletin. Obtain Airbus Service Bulletin A320‑31‑1286 dated 22 January 2008. The AD permits use of later SB revisions only if those revisions have been approved by EASA, so if using a later revision confirm EASA approval before proceeding (Requirement 1).
Step 3 , schedule and perform the installation. Arrange to modify the aircraft by installing EIS1 software standard V60 (DMC P/N 9615325060) "in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A320‑31‑1286 dated 22 January 2008 or later revision approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)" (Requirement 1). Carry out the work according to the SB instructions, including any pre‑ and post‑installation checks, software loading procedures, system tests and verification steps specified in the SB.
Step 4 , observe the compliance deadline. For Requirement 1 the AD sets a deadline of "Not later than 30 November 2013" (Compliance). Ensure the installation is completed on or before that date. The AD itself becomes effective on 18 December 2008 but the installation period extends to the specified date.
Step 5 , implement the post‑installation prohibition. After modification under Requirement 1, do not reinstall EIS1 software standards V32, V40 or V50 on any aeroplane that has been modified as required (Requirement 2). Include this prohibition in maintenance control documentation and procedures so that inadvertent rollbacks are avoided.
Step 6 , maintain records. The AD does not prescribe specific record-keeping formats, but given Requirement 2 and the compliance date, retain clear maintenance records that identify the EIS1 standard installed (V60), the DMC part number (9615325060), the date of modification, the service bulletin revision used and the personnel/organisation that performed the installation. These records will be necessary to show that the aircraft no longer has any of the prohibited software standards installed if questioned or inspected.
Step 7 , monitor EASA approvals and service bulletin revisions. If intending to use a later revision of Airbus SB A320‑31‑1286, confirm that EASA has approved that revision. The AD permits later revisions only if they are EASA-approved, so ensure documentary evidence of EASA approval is retained alongside the maintenance records.
Step 8 , coordinate with manufacturers and maintainers. Engage Airbus for any parts, updates or clarifications in the SB, and ensure that licenced maintenance organisations follow the SB precisely. The AD ties required method to Airbus documentation, so manufacturer clarifications will be authoritative for implementation questions.
Step 9 , consult EASA AD 2008‑0198 for related content. The AD notes that "EASA AD 2008‑0198 refers" (Note). Practitioners should consult that EASA AD to understand any associated European regulatory requirements or technical details that complement the CASA AD. The CASA AD as supplied does not reproduce the EASA AD content.
Step 10 , plan operational scheduling and contract effects. Because the AD applies to individual aircraft and imposes a not-later-than installation deadline, plan depot time for the upgrade. Update maintenance schedules and any leasing or operational contracts as needed to reflect the requirement and to avoid inadvertent non-compliance. The AD does not allocate costs or prescribe contractual mechanics; those practical arrangements must be handled between operators, lessors and maintainers.
Adherence checklist. Confirm aircraft type and MSN are in Table 1; verify installed EIS1 is V32, V40 or V50 by DMC P/N; obtain Airbus SB A320‑31‑1286 (dated 22 January 2008) or later EASA-approved SB revision; install EIS1 V60 (DMC P/N 9615325060) per the SB; complete installation by 30 November 2013; ensure older software versions are not reinstalled post‑modification; retain documentary proof of the work and any EASA approvals used.
