Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive mandates a safety inspection for specific Airbus A320 aircraft to prevent overwing emergency escape slides from failing to deploy during an emergency evacuation.

Who is affected? Owners and operators of Airbus A320 aircraft with serial numbers 002 through 162, 167, and 171 through 174.

What must be done? You must inspect the overwing escape slides according to technical requirements set by the French aviation authority (DGAC AD 91-153-018(B)), as referenced in Airbus Industrie Alert Operators Transmission (AOT) 25-02.

When? Australian registered aircraft must comply by 3 October 1991—two months later than the original French requirement.

Why does this matter? The directive fixes a potential defect that could prevent emergency slides from working during an evacuation, risking passenger and crew safety.
