This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Airbus A319/A320/A321 aeroplanes (except those already modified by Airbus modification 30737 or the specified service bulletin) to replace the Kollmorgen Artus transformer rectifier unit (TRU) P/N Y005-2 in position 2 with P/N Y005-3 and to stop fitting P/N Y005-2 after 31 March 2004. The stated purpose is to eliminate smoke/smell caused by failed TRU input filter capacitors. Operators must pay for parts, maintenance time and aircraft downtime to meet the deadline or a 15,000-hour in-service limit.
