What it does
This Civil Aviation Safety Authority airworthiness directive, AD/750XL/3 Amendment 1 (AD/750XL/3 Amdt 1), directs inspection and remediation of the main wiring loom on specified Pacific Aerospace 750XL aeroplanes. Mechanically, it requires three discrete actions: 1) an inspection of the main wiring loom on the right hand side of the aircraft adjacent to the frames at station 114.34 inches and station 118.84 inches, carried out in accordance with Pacific Aerospace Corporation Bulletin PACSB/XL/009 Issue 2 dated 23 July 2004; 2) repair of any damaged wiring detected during that inspection; and 3) installation of a protective sleeve where the sleeve is missing, again in accordance with the service bulletin (Requirement 1, Requirement 2, Requirement 3 as set out in the directive). The directive specifies that if the sleeves are present and undamaged, no further action is required for those items.
The directive applies to Model 750XL aeroplanes, serial numbers 102 through 134 inclusive (Applicability). It sets compliance timings: Requirement 1 must be completed within 100 hours time in service after the effective date of the Amendment; any necessary wiring repairs (Requirement 2) must be done before further flight following the inspection; and installation of a missing protective sleeve (Requirement 3) must be done within 100 hours TIS after the Requirement 1 inspection (Compliance). The Amendment becomes effective on 14 February 2008 (This Amendment becomes effective on 14 February 2008). The document records that the manufacturer advised of a possible omission of protective sleeving during assembly that could leave wiring subject to fretting damage and potential arcing near fuel vent lines, and that the affected serial number range was extended from an initial S/N 102-106 to S/N 134 (Background).
The directive explicitly credits inspections previously accomplished under AD/750XL/3 and also refers to a CAA(NZ) AD, DCA/750XL/3A (Note: CAA(NZ) AD DCA/750XL/3A refers). The delegate of CASA signed the directive on 20 December 2007 (Charles Lenarcic, Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, 20 December 2007).
