Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law gives the Australian National University (ANU) the power to decide what people wear at graduation ceremonies and other formal university events.

What it does:

Allows the University's Council (the governing body) to create rules about academic and ceremonial dress
Also gives the Vice-Chancellor (the university's chief executive) power to make orders about what people wear at ceremonies
Requires the Vice-Chancellor to tell the Council about any dress orders they make, though the orders remain valid even if they forget to report them

Who it affects:

Students graduating from ANU
Staff and officials attending ceremonial events
Anyone else required to wear specific clothing at university functions

Why it matters: This ensures the University can maintain traditions around graduation attire (like gowns and hoods) and set standards for formal dress at official events, keeping these decisions consistent across the institution.
