JUDGMENT
- Richard John Edwards appears for sentence following his entering of pleas of Guilty with respect to four counts of historical child sexual assault. Each of the offences was committed on the same victim in the period between January 1994 and December 1995 when she was between the ages of 3 and 5.
- Each offence has been charged pursuant to s 61M(2) of the Crimes Act 1900, alleging an indecent assault on a child under the age of 10 years. The applicable maximum penalty is 10 years imprisonment with respect to each offence. There were no statutory non-parole periods at the time of the offending.
- There is a statutory prohibition against the identification of a child victim of sexual offending. That prohibition extends to the name of any such victim and to any evidence which may tend to identify the victim.
- Whilst I will use relevant names in delivering my Remarks, the published version of this judgment will use pseudonyms and redactions in order to comply with the statutory prohibition.
