CRIMINAL LAW - Sentence - False imprisonment and theft - Repeated and contemptuous breaches of intervention orders - Head sentence of 2½ years' imprisonment - Not manifestly excessive.
- The applicant, who is now 44 years old, on 16 March 1998 pleaded guilty in the County Court at Melbourne to a presentment containing one count of false imprisonment (count 1) and three counts of theft (counts 2, 3 and 4). The applicant also consented to the learned judge determining upon his plea of guilty five summary charges, charges numbered 5, 6, 7 and 10, each involving breaches of an intervention order, and charge 11, a charge of unlicensed driving.
