Judgment (77 paragraphs)
- The Applicant works as a volunteer at a junior football organisation attended by his children, training children in football and also as a volunteer instructor at a karate club, also attended by his children, where he has progressed to be graded as a black belt. These activities are 'child related work' as defined in section 9 of the Act.
- Under section 33 of the Act it is an offence to engage in child-related work without an assessment notice. There is an exemption (in section 27 of the Act) from the requirement for a notice, for a parent who participates only in an activity in which his or her child ordinarily participates.
