FEDERAL CIRCUIT AND FAMILY COURT OF AUSTRALIA (DIVISION 1)
Note: The form of the order is subject to the entry in the Court's records.
Note: This copy of the Court's Reasons for judgment may be subject to review to remedy minor typographical or grammatical errors (r 10.14(b) Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Family Law) Rules 2021 (Cth)), or to record a variation to the order pursuant to r 10.13 Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Family Law) Rules 2021 (Cth).
Part XIVB of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) makes it an offence, except in very limited circumstances, to publish an account of proceedings that identify persons, associated persons, or witnesses involved in family law proceedings.
IT IS NOTED that publication of this judgment by this Court under a pseudonym Bryon & Meadows has been approved pursuant to subsection 114Q(2) of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).
109. I am very proud of my recovery and continue to be supported psychologically.
- I have returned to my maiden name of "[Bryon]'· and want [X] to have his name changed to [Bryon] also. This is part of my new sense of self identification.
- I also associate the name "[Meadows]' with a time that I was psychologically abused and in a different place and [Bryon] is the name of my new self.
- [X] has just started school so this would be a good time so that there is no disruption to his schooling/identification as he is young.
- The community knows about the charges against [Mr Meadows], and I don't want [X] to be associated with that name. lf [Mr Meadows] is convicted, it is unlikely that [Mr Meadows] will be out of jail until after [X] becomes an adult; at which point [X] can make his own choices.
- [X] has limited connection with his father as he was incarcerated when [X] was only 2 years old; and therefore, he has limited memory of him
I certify that the preceding fifty-one (51) numbered paragraphs are a true copy of the Reasons for Judgment of the Honourable Justice Smith.
