### sec.99X Obligations of operator of reverse vending machine
This section applies to the operator of a container refund point that is a reverse vending machine.
The operator must ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable—
the reverse vending machine is working properly; and
if the machine is not working properly—
the machine is turned off; or
a sign or other method is used to indicate to users the machine is not working properly; and
the machine does not accept an empty container if the machine is not able to dispense a refund amount for the container; and
the machine does not dispense a refund amount for a container if—
the container is not registered; or
the container does not display the refund marking and a barcode for a beverage product; and
the following information is clearly displayed on or near the machine—
the types of container that can be accepted by the machine;
if the machine dispenses the refund amount for a container other than in cash—the way the refund amount is dispensed;
issuing a voucher or card redeemable for cash, goods or services
crediting the amount to a bank account or credit card account using electronic funds transfer
if the refund amount for an empty container is dispensed by being paid to an entity other than the person who claims the refund amount—the entity to whom the refund amount is paid.
A reverse vending machine raises money for a charity by paying refund amounts to the charity.
Maximum penalty—300 penalty units.

(sec.99X-ssec.1) This section applies to the operator of a container refund point that is a reverse vending machine.
