152 Definitions—pt 2.7
Australia includes the external territories.
Australian law means law of the Commonwealth or of a jurisdiction.
foreign law means law of a foreign country.
foreign law practice means a partnership or corporate entity that is
entitled to engage in legal practice in a foreign country.
foreign licensing body means an entity in a foreign country having
the function, given by the law of the foreign country, of registering
people to engage in legal practice in the foreign country.
local registration certificate means a registration certificate given
overseas-registered foreign lawyer means an individual who is
properly registered to engage in legal practice in a foreign country by
the foreign licensing body for the country.
practise foreign law means doing work, or transacting business, in
the ACT concerning foreign law, being work or business of a kind
that, if it concerned a territory law, would ordinarily be done or
transacted by an Australian legal practitioner.
registered, if used in relation to a foreign country, means having all
necessary licences, approvals, admissions, certificates or other forms
of authorisation (including practising certificates) required under
legislation for engaging in legal practice in the country.
