### sec.31B Changing purpose
The Minister may change the purpose for which a reserve is dedicated by—
changing the purpose to another purpose; or
adding a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated; or
removing a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated.
However, the Minister may change the purpose to another purpose or add a purpose only if—
the new purpose is a purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) ; and
for a new purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) (b) or (c) —the reserve is transferable land.
Also, the Minister may change the purpose of a reserve dedicated for a purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) (b) or (c) only to Aboriginal purposes or Torres Strait Islander purposes.
Further, the Minister may not remove a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated if it is the only purpose.
The Minister may change the purpose for which a reserve is dedicated under this section without receiving an application under section 31D (1) .
The purpose for which a reserve is dedicated is changed by registering an adjustment notice.
The adjustment notice must state—
the reason for the change of purpose of the reserve; and
the changed purpose for which the reserve is dedicated.
The change of purpose for which a reserve is dedicated takes effect on the day the adjustment notice for the change is registered.

(sec.31B-ssec.1) The Minister may change the purpose for which a reserve is dedicated by— changing the purpose to another purpose; or adding a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated; or removing a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated.
(sec.31B-ssec.2) However, the Minister may change the purpose to another purpose or add a purpose only if— the new purpose is a purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) ; and for a new purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) (b) or (c) —the reserve is transferable land.
(sec.31B-ssec.3) Also, the Minister may change the purpose of a reserve dedicated for a purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) (b) or (c) only to Aboriginal purposes or Torres Strait Islander purposes.
(sec.31B-ssec.4) Further, the Minister may not remove a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated if it is the only purpose.
(sec.31B-ssec.5) The Minister may change the purpose for which a reserve is dedicated under this section without receiving an application under section 31D (1) .
(sec.31B-ssec.6) The purpose for which a reserve is dedicated is changed by registering an adjustment notice.
(sec.31B-ssec.7) The adjustment notice must state— the reason for the change of purpose of the reserve; and the changed purpose for which the reserve is dedicated.
(sec.31B-ssec.8) The change of purpose for which a reserve is dedicated takes effect on the day the adjustment notice for the change is registered.
- (a) changing the purpose to another purpose; or
- (b) adding a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated; or
- (c) removing a purpose for which the reserve is dedicated.
- (a) the new purpose is a purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) ; and
- (b) for a new purpose mentioned in section 31 (1) (b) or (c) —the reserve is transferable land.
