### sec.146B Particular controlled operations
This section applies if an application for the variation of an approval for a controlled operation is made to the chairperson under section 146 (2) .
The chairperson may approve the application without referring it to the committee but, before approving the application, the chairperson must consult with the independent member and obtain the independent member’s agreement to the proposed variation.
However, the chairperson may approve an application made to the chairperson in urgent circumstances without complying with subsection (2) , but must consult with the independent member about the variation as soon as possible after approving it.
