[43] For present purpose it is unnecessary to decide whether the Magistrate was right to hold that R v Stones is not good law in Victoria. However it can at least be said that the decision seems to be out of step with Wilson v Kuhl supra insofar as it fails to distinguish between "offensive" and "defensive" uses for knives.

[45] If there is such an element, it could, of course, have significance even in a case involving a firearm (as distinct from a household knife): cf R v Kolb & Adams, supra.
