### sec.20 Appointment of acting chairperson
The board may appoint 1 of its directors to act as chairperson during any period, or all periods, of not longer than 3 months, when the chairperson is absent from duty or Australia or is, for another reason, unable to perform the functions of office.
The Governor in Council may, after consultation with the State Minister and the Commonwealth Minister, appoint a person to act as chairperson—
during a vacancy in the office; or
during any period, or all periods, of longer than 3 months, when the chairperson is absent from duty or Australia or is, for another reason, unable to perform the functions of office.
