### sec.173U Deciding application
The chief executive must decide to grant or refuse to grant the application within the required decision-making period for the application.
However, the chief executive may extend, on 1 occasion, the required decision-making period for deciding the application by giving the applicant a notice about the extension before the end of the period.
The extension must not be more than—
if another provision of this Act states a period by which the required decision-making period may be extended—the stated period; or
otherwise—10 business days.
A failure to make a decision under this section is taken to be a decision to refuse to grant the application.
In this section—
required decision-making period , for an application, means the period—
that starts on the later of the following days—
the day the chief executive receives the application;
if further information or documents are requested under section 173T —the day the chief executive receives the information or documents; and
that ends after either of the following periods—
if another provision of this Act states a period for deciding the application—the stated period;
otherwise—20 business days.
