200V Functions of protective services officer accompanying person at medical setting on Chief Commissioner's direction
(1) The Chief Commissioner may direct a protective services officer on duty to accompany a person (including a child under the age of 18 years) in a medical setting to—
(a) protect the person; or
(b) prevent an offence against an Act or the common law being committed; or
(c) protect the integrity of the criminal justice system, including the following—
(i) the protection of a witness;
(ii) the securing of evidence of the commission of an offence against an Act or the common law.
(2) Without limiting subsection (1), the Chief Commissioner may direct a protective services officer on duty to accompany a person in a medical setting if the Chief Commissioner considers any of the following grounds exist—
(a) the person is at risk of physical harm;
(b) an offence is being committed or is likely to be committed and the person is likely a victim, or is likely to become a victim, as a result;
(c) the person is a witness or victim;
(d) evidence of the commission of an offence involving the person is at risk of being concealed, lost or destroyed;
(e) the person may have committed an offence against an Act or the common law;
(f) a police officer is proposing to obtain information or a witness statement from the person.
(3) The exercise of a function by a protective services officer under this section does not prevent the exercise of any other function of the protective services officer under an Act or law.
