### sec.74 Contravention of official traffic sign an offence
A person who contravenes an indication given by an official traffic sign commits an offence.
Maximum penalty—40 penalty units or 6 months imprisonment.
A local government may take proceedings for the imposition and enforcement of a penalty under subsection (1) for a contravention relating to an official traffic sign installed by it.
However, a local government may not act under subsection (2) if the traffic sign is about a matter mentioned in section 66 (4) , or for which a number of demerit points may be allocated against a person’s traffic history under a regulation.
The penalty recovered by the local government for the offence must be paid to the local government.
Subsection (2) does not limit the right of another entity to take proceedings for the imposition and enforcement of a penalty under subsection (1) for a contravention relating to an official traffic sign.

(sec.74-ssec.2) A local government may take proceedings for the imposition and enforcement of a penalty under subsection (1) for a contravention relating to an official traffic sign installed by it.
(sec.74-ssec.2A) However, a local government may not act under subsection (2) if the traffic sign is about a matter mentioned in section 66 (4) , or for which a number of demerit points may be allocated against a person’s traffic history under a regulation.
