### sec.17 Closure of independent retail shops
There is no prescribed opening time or prescribed closing time in relation to an independent retail shop except as prescribed by subsection (2) .
The occupier of an independent retail shop, other than one used predominantly for the sale of food or groceries or both, is to cause the shop to be closed—
throughout the whole of 25 December in each year (Christmas Day) and Good Friday;
on 25 April in each year (Anzac Day) until 1p.m.
If, under the Holidays Act 1983 , a day is to be observed as a public holiday in substitution for a day mentioned in subsection (2) , the substitution of the day as a public holiday does not apply for the purposes of this section.
