### sec.179 Disclosure or taking advantage of information
If a person is or has been the information commissioner or a member of the staff of the OIC, the person must not—
otherwise than for the purposes of this Act or a proceeding arising under this Act, disclose any information that the person obtained in performing functions under this Act; or
take advantage of that information to benefit themself or another person.
Maximum penalty—100 penalty units.
Subsection (1) (a) does not apply if the person reasonably believes that the disclosure is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious threat to the life, health or safety of an individual or to public health or safety.
