### sec.124 Stopping vehicle
This section applies if an inspector suspects on reasonable grounds, or is aware, that—
a vehicle is being, or has been used, in relation to the commission of an offence against this Act; or
a thing in or on a vehicle may provide evidence of the commission of an offence against this Act; or
any person’s health and safety, or the environment, may be adversely affected by exposure to radiation because of the transport of radioactive material in or on a vehicle; or
the security of radioactive material is at risk because of the way the material is being transported in or on a vehicle.
For the purpose of exercising the powers of an inspector under this division, an inspector may—
if the vehicle is moving—ask or signal the person in control of the vehicle to stop the vehicle; and
whether or not the vehicle is moving—ask or signal the person in control of the vehicle to bring the vehicle to a convenient place within a reasonable distance to allow the inspector to exercise the inspector’s powers under this division.
Despite section 110 , for the purpose of exercising a power under subsection (2) (a) , the inspector must—
have with him or her the inspector’s identity card; and
produce the identity card for the person’s inspection immediately after the vehicle is stopped.
The person must comply with the inspector’s request or signal, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty—50 penalty units.
If the vehicle is stopped, the inspector may direct the person—
not to move the vehicle until the inspector has exercised the inspector’s powers under this division; or
to move the vehicle to, and keep it at, a stated reasonable place to allow the inspector to exercise the inspector’s powers under this division.
When giving the direction, the inspector must warn the person it is an offence not to comply with the direction, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
The person must comply with the inspector’s direction, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty for subsection (7) —50 penalty units.
