### sec.13 Extension of CBR emergency up to 7 days
This section applies if the Minister and the Premier are satisfied—
a CBR emergency has happened; and
it is necessary for emergency responders to continue to exercise CBR emergency powers beyond the first 24 hours ( initial period ) of the emergency to protect life or health at serious risk because of the CBR substance involved in the emergency.
Before the initial period of the CBR emergency ends, the Minister and the Premier may extend the period of the emergency to a total of not more than 7 days from the start of the initial period.
For provisions about the exercise of the detention power after the first 48 hours of a CBR emergency, see division 5 , subdivision 2 .
If—
the period of the CBR emergency as extended under subsection (2) is less than 7 days; and
the Minister and the Premier still consider it is necessary for emergency responders to continue to exercise CBR emergency powers to protect life or health at serious risk because of the CBR substance involved in the emergency;
the Minister and the Premier may further extend the period of the emergency to a total of up to 7 days from the start of the initial period of the emergency.
Unless either of the following happens, the CBR emergency ends 7 days after the start of the initial period of the emergency—
a relevant person sooner ends the emergency under section 15 ;
a regulation extends the period of the emergency beyond the end of the 7 days.

- (a) a relevant person sooner ends the emergency under section 15 ;
- (b) a regulation extends the period of the emergency beyond the end of the 7 days.
