### sec.46 Making standards, policies and guidelines
The archivist may make any of the following documents in relation to matters regulated under this Act—
a standard with which a public authority, or class of public authority, must comply;
a policy to which a public authority, or class of public authority, must have regard;
a guideline to which a public authority, or class of public authority, may have regard.
A standard must be approved by regulation and takes effect—
on the day it is approved; or
if a later day is stated in the standard—on the later day.
A policy or guideline takes effect—
on the day it is published on the archives website; or
if a later day is stated in the policy or guideline—on the later day.
