### sec.706 Prospective candidates
This section applies if a person who wants to be a candidate for an office for an organisation has, within 5 years, been—
convicted of a disqualifying offence; or
released from prison after serving a prison term for a conviction for a disqualifying offence.
The person may apply to the court for leave to hold the office for the organisation.
The court must not grant the leave if the applicant has already made an application under this section for leave to hold the office despite the conviction.
(sec.706-ssec.1) This section applies if a person who wants to be a candidate for an office for an organisation has, within 5 years, been— convicted of a disqualifying offence; or released from prison after serving a prison term for a conviction for a disqualifying offence.
(sec.706-ssec.2) The person may apply to the court for leave to hold the office for the organisation.
(sec.706-ssec.3) The court must not grant the leave if the applicant has already made an application under this section for leave to hold the office despite the conviction.
- (a) convicted of a disqualifying offence; or
- (b) released from prison after serving a prison term for a conviction for a disqualifying offence.
