### sec.48A Deciding claim
Subject to sections 48B and 48C , the chief executive must, within a reasonable period after the making of the claim, decide—
to grant or refuse the claim; and
if the chief executive decides to grant the claim—the amount of the compensation payable.
If the chief executive decides to refuse the claim or decides an amount of compensation that is less than the amount claimed or agreed to by the claimant, the chief executive must give the claimant an information notice for the decision.
In deciding what is a reasonable period for subsection (1) , the chief executive must have regard to—
whether the chief executive may need to give a notice under section 48 or obtain other information or evidence under section 48B ; and
the period that may be needed to consider the information or document the subject of the notice or the information or evidence that may need to be obtained.

- (a) to grant or refuse the claim; and
- (b) if the chief executive decides to grant the claim—the amount of the compensation payable.

- (b) the period that may be needed to consider the information or document the subject of the notice or the information or evidence that may need to be obtained.
