### sec.235 Contract employees
On the commencement, a contract employee becomes a public service officer.
Despite anything in the Public Service Act 1996 —
the person continues to be engaged and employed in the department under the terms of the person’s contract with the Authority; and
to remove doubt, it is declared that, if the person’s employment under the contract is terminated under the terms of the contract, the termination does not affect any rights to compensation to which the person is entitled under the terms of the contract.
Subject to subsection (2), the person’s contract with the Authority is taken to be a contract under the Public Service Act 1996 , and that Act applies to the contract as if it were a contract for a fixed term under that Act .
The Public Service Act 1996 , section 71 , does not apply to the person.
A reference in the contract to the Authority as the employer under the contract is taken to be a reference to the chief executive.
