8.01Right to be heard and representation

#### 8.01 Right to be heard and representation (1) A person (other than a corporation or authority) who is entitled to be heard in a case may conduct the case on the person’s own behalf or be represented by a lawyer. (2) A corporation or authority that is entitled to be heard in a case may be represented by a lawyer, or an officer of the corporation or authority. > Note 1: For the right of a lawyer to appear in a court exercising jurisdiction under the Act, see Part VIIIA of the Judiciary Act 1903. > Note 2: A party may apply to appear at a hearing or trial by electronic communication (see rules 5.06 and 16.05). > Note 3: A party is not entitled to be represented by a person who is not a lawyer unless the court otherwise orders. The court will give permission for representation by a person other than a lawyer only in special circumstances.
