### sec.169L Police use of confidential information This section applies if a police officer receives information from a prescribed entity, specialist DFV service provider or support service provider under section 169D or 169E . The police officer, and any other police officer to whom the information is disclosed under this section, may use the information to the extent necessary to perform the officer’s functions as a police officer. A police officer must not use the information under this section for an investigation or for a proceeding for an offence unless— the police officer, or another police officer, has consulted with the entity that gave the information about the proposed use; and in consultation with the entity, the police officer has considered whether the proposed use of the information for the investigation or proceeding would be in the best interests of a person experiencing domestic violence. Subsection (3) does not apply to the extent that the police officer needs to use the information immediately in the performance of the officer’s functions as a police officer.
