Commonwealth legislation
This is a temporary exemption issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) that gives certain aircraft maintenance organisations a simpler way to get approved.
What it does: Normally, organisations seeking approval as a "Part 145 organisation" (basically, certified aircraft maintenance companies) must prepare a detailed document called an "exposition" that strictly follows the official "Part 145 Manual of Standards." This exemption lets certain applicants use an alternative, more flexible set of requirements found in CASA's "Part 145 Assessor Handbook" instead.
Who it affects:
Why it matters: This creates a streamlined pathway for maintenance organisations, reducing red tape while still ensuring safety standards are met. It recognises that the handbook provides a practical alternative to the rigid Manual of Standards for certain types of maintenance work. The exemption runs from 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2029, giving CASA time to potentially update the main regulations permanently.
