### sec.316 When thing becomes property of the State or local government
A thing becomes the property of the State if—
the chief executive decides the thing is forfeited to the State under section 311 ; or
the thing is forfeited to the State under section 313 ; or
the owner of the thing and the State agree, in writing, to the transfer of the ownership of the thing to the State.
A thing becomes the property of a local government if the thing is forfeited to the local government under section 313 .
A thing may also become the property of the State or a local government under section 315 .
(sec.316-ssec.1) A thing becomes the property of the State if— the chief executive decides the thing is forfeited to the State under section 311 ; or the thing is forfeited to the State under section 313 ; or the owner of the thing and the State agree, in writing, to the transfer of the ownership of the thing to the State.
(sec.316-ssec.2) A thing becomes the property of a local government if the thing is forfeited to the local government under section 313 . A thing may also become the property of the State or a local government under section 315 .
- (a) the chief executive decides the thing is forfeited to the State under section 311 ; or
- (b) the thing is forfeited to the State under section 313 ; or
- (c) the owner of the thing and the State agree, in writing, to the transfer of the ownership of the thing to the State.
