### sec.69 Presence of parent required generally
If a parent of a child is not present when the child appears before a court charged with an offence, the court, after making inquiries of those present as to—
the whereabouts of the child’s parents; and
whether a parent of the child has been informed of the proceedings as required under—
section 43 ; or
the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 , section 392 ;
may adjourn the proceeding to enable a parent to be present at the time and place to which the proceeding is adjourned.
The court may recommend that the chief executive provide financial assistance to a parent of the child to ensure that a parent is present at the proceeding.
