### sec.264 Authorisations for Mental Health Act 2016
The chief executive may, by signed writing, authorise a member of staff of a detention centre to exercise powers of a detention centre officer under the Mental Health Act 2016 .
However, the chief executive may authorise a staff member only if, in the chief executive’s opinion, the staff member has the necessary expertise or experience to exercise the powers.

(sec.264-ssec.1) The chief executive may, by signed writing, authorise a member of staff of a detention centre to exercise powers of a detention centre officer under the Mental Health Act 2016 .
(sec.264-ssec.2) However, the chief executive may authorise a staff member only if, in the chief executive’s opinion, the staff member has the necessary expertise or experience to exercise the powers.
