### sec.1089 Existing authorities to take, or interfere with, water
This section applies if a former water board, customer of a former water board or the chief executive was authorised under the repealed Acts or another Act to take or interfere with water.
If the authority was given under 1 of the repealed Acts, it continues under that Act as if that Act had not been repealed until whichever of the following first happens—
the chief executive grants a water licence to replace the authority;
the authority is replaced with a water entitlement, interim resource operations licence, resource operations licence or distribution operations licence.
If the authority was given under another Act, it continues under that Act until whichever of the following first happens—
the chief executive grants a water licence to replace the authority;
the authority is replaced with a water entitlement, interim resource operations licence, resource operations licence or distribution operations licence.
An authority continued under subsection (2) or (3) is taken to also be an authority under this Act to take or interfere with water.
The chief executive may grant a water licence under subsection (2)(a) or (3)(a) without the need for an application to be made under section 206.
Within 30 business days after the chief executive grants the licence, the chief executive must give the licensee the licence and an information notice about the granting of the licence.
The licence has effect from the day the licence is given to the licensee.
