### sec.89 Power to require production of documents
An authorised officer may require a person to produce to the officer for inspection a document required to be kept by the person—
under this Act or the Marine Safety Act ; or
under the Commonwealth Navigation Act or the Protection of the Sea (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Act 1983 (Cwlth) ; or
under the domestic commercial vessel national law.
The person must produce the document for inspection, unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty—200 penalty units.
The authorised officer may keep the document to make a copy of it.
If the authorised officer makes a copy of the document, or an entry in the document, the officer may require the person responsible for keeping the document to certify the copy as a true copy of the document or entry.
The person responsible for keeping the document must comply with a requirement made under subsection (4) , unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Maximum penalty—200 penalty units.
The authorised officer must return the document to the person as soon as practicable after making the copy.
