### sec.53DNC When show cause notice must be given before compliance notice
A distributor-retailer or water connection officer must, before giving a person a compliance notice for a matter, give the person a show cause notice about the matter.
However, a show cause notice need not be given if the distributor-retailer or water connection officer reasonably considers—
urgent action is required to protect public health or public safety; or
urgent action is required to stop damage, or further damage, to the distributor-retailer’s water infrastructure; or
it is otherwise not appropriate in the circumstances to give a show cause notice for the matter.
The distributor-retailer or officer considers giving a show cause notice may adversely affect the effectiveness of the proposed compliance notice.
