### sec.18 Functions and powers of chief executive officer
The main functions of the chief executive officer are as follows—
to ensure the authority performs its functions effectively and efficiently;
to undertake or commission investigations, prepare plans or take steps the Minister directs, or the chief executive officer considers necessary or desirable, to ensure proper planning, preparation, coordination and control of development for the protection, rebuilding and recovery of affected communities;
to make recommendations to the Minister about any matter that—
relates to the performance or exercise of the chief executive officer’s or authority’s functions or powers; and
may help the Minister in the proper administration of this Act.
The chief executive officer’s functions also include any other function given to the chief executive officer under this Act or another Act.
The chief executive officer may exercise the powers of the authority and any other powers given to the chief executive officer under this Act or another Act.

(sec.18-ssec.2) The chief executive officer’s functions also include any other function given to the chief executive officer under this Act or another Act.
