### sec.231 False, misleading or incomplete documents
A person must not give the authority a document containing information the person knows is false, misleading or incomplete in a material particular.
Maximum penalty—1,000 penalty units or 1 year’s imprisonment.
However, a person does not commit an offence against subsection (1) if the person, when giving the document—
tells the authority, to the best of the person’s knowledge, how it is false, misleading or incomplete; and
if the person has, or can reasonably obtain, the correct information—gives the authority the correct information.
Unless the authority agrees that the information to be given to the authority under subsection (2) (a) or (b) may be given orally, a person does not comply with the paragraph unless the information is given in writing.
It is enough for a complaint against a person for an offence against subsection (1) to state that the document was false, misleading or incomplete to the person’s knowledge.
